Brunswick County ARRL ARES Program
The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) consists of licensed radio amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for auxiliary communications duties under the national ARRL leadership matrix.
Every licensed amateur, regardless of membership in the ARRL or any other local organization, is eligible to join. Our primary mission is securing emergency communications support loops for non-governmental welfare and humanitarian field units (such as the American Red Cross and local shelters) during community emergencies.

🎓 Volunteer Training Track Levels
Volunteers expected to assist with multi-agency operations or deploy directly to field command posts must demonstrate core National Incident Management System (NIMS) credentials.
FEMA foundational Independent Study coursework is internet-based, self-paced, and available completely free of charge from the FEMA Independent Study Directory .

🏡 Local Neighborhood Support Options
You do not have to complete FEMA certifications to be a valuable asset to our network! Non-certified club operators can attend planning meetings, act as localized neighborhood storm weather spotters, participate in simplex field testing loops, and assist with shore station rigging checks.
