Brunswick County Government AUXCOMM Infrastructure
The Auxiliary Communications (AUXCOMM) unit is a formally recognized public safety component integrated directly into the Brunswick County Emergency Management Agency under the regulatory guidance of CISA and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Unlike private organizational programs, AUXCOMM hams are formally registered auxiliary government volunteers mobilized under state directives to execute direct communications support inside local municipal assetsβincluding Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs), mobile public safety command trailers, and municipal 911 dispatch centers during official county disaster declarations.
π‘οΈ Leadership & Directives Coordination
AUXCOMM personnel operate strictly within the unified government command framework. For information regarding upcoming multi-agency communications exercises or local auxiliary credentials, contact our coordination desks:
- County AUXCOMM Coordinator: William “Bill” Sirginson (N4PEN)
- Deputy AUXCOMM Coordinator: John Phillips (K4IR)
ποΈ Persistent Training Nets
- AUXCOMM Auxiliary Network Check-in: Every Monday evening at 7:00 PM using the primary
147.315 MHzlocal repeater.
π Mandatory DHS NIMS Certification Requirements
Because AUXCOMM operators interface directly with state public safety emergency dispatch systems, emergency medical groups, and law enforcement agencies, the federal government requires all field volunteers to maintain complete independent-study documentation.
Operators must secure certified passing certificates for these four core FEMA modules before requesting official county mobilization line tasks:
- π IS-100 β Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS)
- π IS-200 β Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response
- π IS-700 β National Incident Management System (NIMS) Introduction
- π IS-800 β National Response Framework Introduction
Foundational certifications are completed free of charge via the FEMA Independent Study Course Directory .
π The Official Credentialing Pathway
To achieve full active deployment authorization inside the Brunswick County EOC facility, operators must satisfy these consecutive milestones:
- Hold passing certificates for the four foundational FEMA modules.
- Attend a formal, multi-day state-sponsored DHS CISA AUXCOMM Course.
- Initialize an official AUXCOMM position task book.
- Demonstrate proficiency tracking field messages during a county-level incident simulation exercise.
- Secure final coordinator sign-off and official credential badge validation from the Brunswick County Emergency Management office.
